Surrealistic
For my surrealistic photo I would like to magnetize the frustrations of different aspects of a day by first starting with a flame.Possibly a candle flame, beginning with myself as the wick of a candle, engulfed by flame that is growing and slowly being enlarged. The flame will be the center and expand into many different things along the edges, linking together many items.
This is simply a starting idea, and anything is likely to change.

Surrealist Artists
Born in Belgium, Rene Magritte was the eldest of three boys. He always had a passion for art and when he was 17 in the year of 1914, he enrolled into the Academy of Fine Arts located in Brussels in order to learn the techniques involved with art. His artwork has left numerous impressions such as being humorous, or even questionable, but it is undeniable of his obvious talent.
Romain Laurent began studying design in France, and since 2006 he has dedicated his time as a freelance photographer in Paris. He has made an impact with his work by establishing himself as the representative for the generation of young photographers. He was born in 1983, and has often been described to have a sophisticated form for his approach in his work.
Artist’s Name: RenĂ© Magritte
Title: The Lovers
Date: 1928
Description: A couple is shown kissing will both have their heads covered with a cloth.![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFTXcLxRIm3DU3ohHmcHY3HwXs0fojI23QG3ujPst_5Qjn_YapIV7N0evU4jLXlO5suWZuFQ7xI34NVb8C1OY1e7ukWjs1NOschDtf59egZZPdkXfD5gwRLEqEeJN819TicKTfCxqyjv_r/s320/The-Lovers-II-Rene-Magritte-1928.jpg)
Analysis: The two figures are the center and main focus of the piece. There is a simplicity to how there is not too much going on, and there is a neutral tone in the cloth and the man’s black suit. The calm red wall helps balance the overall artwork with the woman’s red outfit.
Interpretation: Couples kissing is a normal event to witness, but the element of the cloth covering their faces adds an eerie element to it. It is hard to understand why the couple would be acting in this manor, why they would have cloths over their faces. The material of the cloth gives the impression of death that these two figures, although a couple (as shown by their kiss), are both responsible for each other’s death.
Judgment: The simplicity of the painting, with minimal colors and only one focus provides the artist with success. The balancing colors in the piece give off a calm feeling for the event of the couple kissing, yet this is a queer event and artist’s reasoning behind it is eerie. When Magritte was young, his mother was unhappy and his mother drowned herself in the river when he was only 14. His mother’s body was pulled from the river with her face covered by her own dress and Magritte witnessed the corpse disturbingly wrapped up in material, which explains the painful memory etched in the back of his mind. This element is clearly found in many of his works, as seen in “The Lovers”.

Title: The Burnout Syndrome
Date: 2010
Description: A person is walking across the edge of the ocean shore, with steam emitting from their scalp.
Analysis: There is a warm tone color that is made from the light of the sun and is absorbed in the particles of smoke. It is also reflected in the waves of the water coming onto the shore and it seems to be a peaceful setting.
Interpretation: The purpose of the peaceful setting is to represent the person attempting to relax after being overworked and emitting some steam.
Judgment: This photograph is a success, as the warm colors brings life to scene and the focus is something everyone can relate to. The stress of the day always builds up as the day wears on, and eventually this is how stress feels- to "burnout". Surrealism is represented in this photograph due to the fact that so much steam can't be emitted from the scalp simply from being burnt out.
Both styles of work are completely different; Rene applies a curious aspect to his work that makes the audience ask questions and Romain establishes realistic abstract events that keeps the viewer's eye lingering.

Portrait: Taken at merrill park, a guy at the water fountain before a tree. The sky looked interesting that day and I'm happy with how it came out.

Scenery: Taken by the creek at merril. I find it an interesting piece since it shows a close up of the pebbles, the base of the tree, and the flow of the water.
